Youth Football – Your Fifth Football Practice of the Season

With 2-3 steps forward and half a step back, progress is seen. We are the field of criminal activity above all today. Our dynamic warm-up and corner form challenge is now around 8 minutes, which combined with the optional pre-workout transition progressions of grabs and kicks, is plenty of time to get the blood flow and muscle activation we’re looking for.

As it was, all three of us do individual training together, which allows us to be together like skilled and big players. The line started with our board exercises, of course starting with compression and then moving on to live. This year we’ve been blessed with some half-round perfects, they work great for this workout if you put 2 in a row. This forces the liners to maintain a wide base or they will step on the tails and fall. The board is less forgiving, flat and only 6 inches wide. I’m a big believer in the semi-long cycle if you have the funds. Next we placed the double team on the high bag, then moved on to the live double teams. Remember to pair linemen together who will be a double team in games, it is important that they learn how to work together.

The backs were working on a stop drill and then switched to an open stop drill, which we call a diamond drill. Any player who still struggles with the breakaway drill should stick with it because the open field drill is an advanced drill. Then they worked on the rest of the “Sainted Six” base series, where coaches had tails at the point of attack and used cones to designate couriers.

Then the string worked the first two steps of the blocking tags, which we tell them how to block in each game. We started with power, then moved on to sweeps, returns, and wraps.

We moved on to reviewing our base blocking rules, (which they all worked very well with), then added dads along the defensive line and matched players to the correct “defender” with correct head placement on all of our block tags and ice. they did Even the 7-9 year olds seemed to take it very well, with very few exceptions.

Finally, we spent about 10 minutes working on the basic transition block technique.

Meanwhile the backs have been repeating games, the 7-9s are still at St Six, the 10-11s have the same dong as there are only 6-8 kids who have played in the team before and only 2 experienced backers. The 12-13 year olds are placed in the Mouse Series and Spinner Series as all 4 backs have played for us before but can be in different positions. However, there are a number of new players on the line. We were also able to do some basic adjustments with the 12-13s. With all three teams we replay the plays in the air with the coaches at the point of attack with shields. We have each coach coaching small parts of the offense and one coach on the left side of the line is responsible for correcting first steps, head position and technique and another coach does the same for the right side of the line. Of course we do this for every position in every football game we play. After each replay a new group of players rush to do the next game, we’re a little slower than we should be at this point. The youngest group gets a game every 20 seconds or so, ages 10-11 about 16 seconds and the course about 12-13 seconds.

We went live for about 20 minutes today to get the kids used to contact.
