Coaching Youth Football – Offensive Line Drill

I use this pop alert football drill when planning who my blockers are. Needless to say, I have the offensive line coaches do this test. This is a classic of test takers wearing block stickers against the instructor. Each child starts in a three point position right in front of the leader. The coach blows a whistle or plays a cadence, and the participant hits the court with all his strength and blocks the coach. The instructor holds his position and allows the player to push him easily. The coach calls out the number to which the player is rated. We use a range from 1 (weak) to 10 (strong). Then the children go to the end of the line and wait for their turn again.

You’ll quickly notice a rivalry between the caps as they ask each other, “What did the trainer score?” Suddenly a competition ensues where each child tries to outdo the other.

Like Iron Man training, you’ll find out which players are working the hardest to improve their ranking, while other kids lag behind and stop trying because they don’t like competing with other kids. The head coach should keep the good mood of all the players in the team. You should focus on weaker children and give them only one task. All the coaches have to do is help these players with their qualifications. Give them time, and as the season progresses, these kids will pick up their skills.

You are a coach, instructor and teacher of youth football, not high school, college or professional. Your job is to make sure that all children, especially sensitive children, do not have an attitude and decide not to play. Please keep careful notes to ensure that the child’s sensitive behavior is positive.

Each athlete is required to start this exercise in a proper three-point stance.

Another common question is whether soccer players should be taught to block using their hands or using their shoulders. Each player must be exposed to each mod because different situations may require different types of blocks. An individual participant may find one style easier than another.

It’s common for the same players to be your best blockers, rushers, and passers. All players, regardless of playing position, must throw a block at some point. Also, depending on the offense you set up running backs and tight ends are required to make significant blocks.
