What is Sports Investing?

You may be like me years ago and have never heard the term “Sports Investing”.

Before I learned about sports investing, I would bet on a game that I knew would be a hit and a few other cool games. To cap the day I placed one or two small bets for shits and giggles.

I quickly learned that this was not a successful equation. This is an easy way to get frustrated and call a scammer. Tired of wasting all my time and getting a cash advance to pay for a bookie, I started looking online.

I worked at the hospital at night. While some nights were incredibly busy, other nights gave me more time than I could handle. Sometimes I thought I had found the end of the internet.

I have found that the internet is filled with websites related to sports gambling. Most will try to get rid of the useless information before their site starts making money from you. Others are simply sportsbook affiliate farms that provide banners for every online sportsbook and poker room. These guys want to make money off their players’ losses and have given those who click on one of those sportsbooks nothing of value.

Finally, while looking for betting strategies, I found certain sites that talk about something called sports betting. These sites talked about betting on a unit of their money and preached that there is no such thing as a LOCK.

Does sport invest in gambling? You bet it is!

That’s what makes it so fun.

Sports betting has been developed to describe a disciplined method of betting on sporting events. The principles of sports investing teach you how to manage your money to maximize your profit and minimize your risk.

When you first decide to practice sports investing, you need to determine what your bankroll is. Your bankroll is the amount of money set aside for your long-term action. This money should be an amount that, if completely exhausted, will not affect your living situation. Sports investment losses should never interfere with the bills you have to pay or other necessities of life.

When I first learned about sports investing, I decided to test this theory. After all the other systems and scams I found online, I was a little skeptical. However, this information is gathered from various sources.

For my leap into sports investing, I put myself in the bank for $1,000. The size of my bankroll directly predicted the size of the bets I placed in my games. This amount is called a unit. The roll is a unit equal to 5% of the bankroll. You can use 3%, 5% or even 10%. It all depends on how aggressive or conservative you want to be.

In my case I decided to go with 5% or $50. Now I didn’t just go out and put a unit in every game. I started my week researching each game before making a final decision. My research includes more than just watching the NFL and sports score center. I use numerous online sites and offline resources before placing my bets. It is known that handicappers and sports investors spend 10-40 hours a week on their selection.

After I do my homework and have a short list of games that I think are the best games on the board for one reason or another, I go and put the same unit in each game. By placing this unit on each game, I reduce the volatility of the sports betting market by reducing my exposure to the juice that goes into losing bets.

By placing one unit in 3-5 games I researched, it gives me a chance to profit by hitting 55-60% of your bet. If I hit 2 out of 3 of my games during the day, I’m up $45 (using $50 as a unit). If I win Sunday night’s game, I’ll be up $95. If I end up on the losing side in Monday’s football game, I’m still up $45. But I win, I’ll be $145 for the weekend.

In this example above, I won 3 of my 5 bets on the weekend. This is a 60% winning percentage. As you can see, if you can average this winning percentage over the course of the season, the only thing that limits your profit is your money and unit size.

A final rule of thumb in sports investing is that you never risk more than half of your money at any given time. You always have enough of a bankroll to fight against, if you follow this golden rule.

As with any hobby, sports investing is not for everyone. I can’t build a masterpiece wooden chair, and some people aren’t as good at sports betting as others. While most people are good at sports gambling due to their lack of discipline and sense of money management, other people are better at picking winners and doing their homework. If you find that you are constantly losing, you may want to re-evaluate your hobby choices. You can be more manual with a radial saw.
